The Eye of the Lion by Lael Wertenbaker (1964)

$10.00

Mata Hari, born Margaretha Geertruida Zelle in 1876, was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan. This historical fiction novel covers her notoriety during World War I for her alleged espionage activities. Mata Hari was accused of working as a double agent for both the French and the Germans, though the evidence against her was ambiguous. She was arrested in 1917, tried, and subsequently executed by firing squad in France in 1917. Her life and trial continue to be subjects of fascination and speculation.
